If you're looking for a new way to add some interest into your space, you've stumbled across the right blog post as we are going to give you some insight on cement encaustic tiles!
Cement encaustic tiles have created a new flare in design through their funky patterns and variations in colors. Most commonly you will see them on floors, back splashes, showers, front entries, fireplaces and feature walls. On average they will come in an 8"x8" square and are made to pattern match with the rest of its coordinating series. Colors and patterns range from bright floral to black and white geometric with the average thickness around around 5/8".

As the majority of cement tiles are heavy on design, keeping your color palette somewhat neutral will allow your new addition to be the focal point of the space.
Design tip* Using light colors is a great way to make the space appear larger and keep a kitchen feeling fresh and bright.
One of the most common questions we get with cement tiles is whether or not they should be sealed - the answer is YES! Cement is porous in nature, which requires specific sealants to ensure they are stain resistant. There are two main types of sealers that are recommended: Penetrating sealers and topical sealers. Penetrating sealers coat the cement particles in the tile making it less likely they will retain stains. Topical sealers create a barrier on the surface of the tile so that stains do not reach the cement. Topical sealers have different finishes that include shiny, satin and matte.
Our absolute favorite surface for these funky tiles is for a fireplace. It is such a great way to create that WOW factor into your space without breaking the bank.
FYI* If you are in need of a sample, we luckily have access to all the cement tiles shown through the Saltillo link under each tile photo!
